Just Purchased

I picked up a couple of books yesterday, one for class readings and the other because it was on sale. The first was Exploring Jewish Literature of the Second Temple Period: A Guide for New Testament Students by Larry Helyer. The second was John Sailhamer’s The Pentateuch as Narrative: A Biblical-Theological Commentary, which was only $5 at a local bookstore!  While I’d love to delve into Sailhamer’s book, I am require to read all 500+ pages of Helyer’s book by the end of next week–better get to it!

  1. Jason,

Helyer’s book is nice, but it also requires a lot of primary source reading for his chapters to make sense, so you should probably have Charlesworth’s two volumes handy when you’re reading through Helyer’s survey.

  2. Mike: Thanks for the info. I’ve read some of it so far, but nothing has been too challenging. I discovered that I have Charles’ Apocrypha of the Old Testament included in my Logos iPhone app, so that was a nice surprise!
