The Passing of Billy Mays

It’s been a bad week for celebrities (and I say that with no sarcasm). Today I learned that legendary pitchman Billy Mays passed away. Mays, of Oxi-Clean fame (and numerous other household items), was only 50 years old and died of presently unknown causes. Reports speculate that it was related to a mishap on the plane on which Mays had been flying, but this is not confirmed. I, like perhaps many of you, once thought Mays to be a little over-the-top in his infomercials. However, I watched him (along with Anthony Sullivan) in their Discovery series Pitchmen and developed a new respect and admiration for him. I mean, you can’t always learn alot about someone in a two-minute TV spot. He was an interesting man who will be missed.

  1. Yeah, I watched one episode one night and wasn’t in to it. But I watched another a few weeks later and became enamored with him and Sully. It’s a shame…
