  1. “We must always be mindful of this: we are merely the messengers and communicators of truth, not its originators.”

The extensiveness of the doctrinal statements in Corinthians is truly amazing and often under-played. This chapter begins and ends with the exclusion of the human as the inspirational agent of the truths revealed in Scripture. It is likewise truly amazing that what Paul is saying is that the division should not exist if we knew this vital truth; that God has seen fit by the foolishness of preaching to save some and has granted that ministry by the Spirit and the incredibly, rich and gracious gift of the Mind of Christ.

As you have said here, it is not the natural talents; a carnival barker could draw a crowd and sell a product. It is not the trained orator, nor the academics. Wonderful tools, all, but, in the end it does not reside in us but in Christ. All the more wonderful then that we have been given Him to live in us.

  2. Thomas,

Thank you for your comment, especially that it is the first on this blog! Hopefully there will be many more to follow.
The more I study Scripture and deliver it to the congregation, the more I am awed that God would choose me for such a task. We often times quote Paul’s words from 1 Tim. 1:15 (Paul’s declaration of being the worst of sinners) in jest, or at least with a conjured conviction, yet I feel more and more like this the more I understand about God’s word. It is truly humbling to be a student of the scripture.
