I cracked open Apocalypticism in the Mediterranean World and the Near East to read the first chapter by Morton Smith. He sets out to discuss the terms ΑΠΟΚΑΛΥΠΤΩ and ΑΠΟΚΑΛΥΨΙΣ and his first comment is oozing with snark.
From the adjective, therefore, we turn to the noun and the verb, both of which were masterfully mishandled by Oepke in his ThWNT article on καλυπτω κτλ.
